Factors That Affect Educational Attainment of Foster Youth Who Have Aged Out: Analyzing Services From the National Youth in Transition Database Author: De La Torre, Ana Date published: 2025 |
Abstract | The purpose of this study is to further understand which services significantly contribute to the highest level of education completed by former foster youth who have aged out of the foster care system. Former foster care youth have been known to enter adulthood with fewer supports and resources than youth in the general population (Salazar 2013). Given their prior histories of home removal, placement instability and exposure to trauma, they may feel less secure about their lives in general in relation to stability. Additional studies are needed to understand the impacts that services may have on educational attainment associated with youth who have aged out of foster care. |
