Black Slave Revolt Depiction and Minority Representation in U.S. History Textbooks from 1950-2005 Author: Czerniak, Joseph Date published: 2006 |
Abstract | I examine the evolution of ethnic and racial minority group representation in U.S. history textbooks since 1950 in this study. To accomplish this goal, Black slave rebellions were examined and quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed in textbooks published during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Qualitative analysis is subjective. All readers may not agree with the interpretations of the author but the findings are supported with evidence. The textbooks only represent a sample of the information one might expect to find in similar textbooks during each decade and by no means indicate that all textbooks from each decade cover the examined material in the same manner. |
