Hmong in Laos: Urbanization and Adaptation Author: Stewart, Matt, Xiong, Khou, Xiong, Xong Date published: 2004 |
Abstract | The following paper takes a look at post-Vietnam War urbanization and assimilation of the Hmong in Laos into Lao culture and society. The authors contest that the Hmong in Laos are undergoing rapid urbanization, aided by the aggressive relocation policies of the Lao government. Forced contact with the Lao has obliged the Hmong to adapt aspects of Lao culture, resulting in social and cultural upheavals. |
