Abstract
| This photograph was published in the La Crosse Tribune on August 8, 1948. The photograph's caption reads: "Centennial Days inspire many of the displays in the women's building at the Inter-State fair this year. The carriage, gaily painted in white and colors and complete even to the upholsery for the interior, is a carving of K. L. Fawcett. The frame cabin and the horse and buggy are among wood carvings by Leroy Pynn. New Amersterdam Prairie homemakers club had an entire booth devoted to comparison of old and new, many of the displays in miniature. The tiny iron stove, some 40 years old, is a possession of Mrs. Howard Chalsma and the doll for the display was dressed in replica of the era. The one-cup brass teakettle is not a toy but one actually used in England and brought to this country some 150 years ago. It belongs to Mrs. Alfred Aspeslet. Likewise used for single serving was the Dutch warming pot brought from Holland 150 years ago and now belonging to Mrs. Annie Johnson. The old-fashioned iron is an heirloom in the family of Mrs. Ray Grokowsky and the toaster, showing the rather good arrangement for an open fire, belongs to Mrs. Gust Koch."
On the envelope housing the negative is written: "August 1948. Fair @ La Crosse county - antiques." |
