Abstract
| This photograph was published in the La Crosse Tribune on October 11, 1960. The photograph's caption reads: "The first phase of raising the Rose Street viaduct, which spans the Milwaukee Road tracks, was completed Tuesday. Bridge crews of the railroad, with the aid of three air jacks and about 10 hydraulic jacks, raised the south end of the bridge six inches. The north end will be lifted similarly Thursday. Steel plates are being inserted under the bridge atop piers to permit higher freight loadings to pass beneath, a spokesman for the railroad said. The bridge weighs less - about 70 tons in the center - than at the end due to a three truss arrangement."
On the envelope housing the negative is written: "October 10, 1960. Rose St. Viaduct raising." |
