Abstract
| This photograph was published in the La Crosse Tribune on July 10, 1962. The photograph's caption reads: "Mrs. Leo Anny, 1023 Caledonia St., received a certificate from the White House last week which read: 'This certificate is awarded by a grateful nation in recognition of devoted and selfless consecration to the service of mankind in the Armed Forces of the United States.' It was signed by President John F. Kennedy. The citation bears the name of Leo Anny, 70, who died Memorial Day after he had carried the American flag in the annual parade as part of the Catholic War Veterans marching unit. Mrs. Anny does not know how the news of Mr. Anny's death was received by the White House."
