The photograph's caption reads: "Melvina's 85-year-old smithy, Emil Erickson, is busy, above, at the power hammer which he built himself 17 years ago. He stands, at right, holding an unpatented five-foot bear trap which he builds for trappers." On the envelope housing the negative is written: "November 1, 1960. Emil Erickson, Melvina blacksmith."
