Abstract
| A black and white photograph featuring a Cuban hitter backing out of the batter's box as a catcher throws to second base on a steal attempt, taken by the La Crosse Tribune photographer Steve Noffke on June 21, 1980. The photograph was included with the article titled "Baseball in Cuba not a lucrative profession," written by David B. Stoeffler and published in the La Crosse Tribune on June 24, 1980. The photograph was later published in the La Crosse Tribune Special Edition titled: "In Search of Freedom: The Cuban Odyssey," published on October 20, 1980; the caption reads: "Baseball, one of the most popular sports in Cuba, is enjoyed by refugees on a sunny June afternoon. Several young refugees were given the chance to try out for major leage [sic] baseball teams during the summer and at least one signed a minor league contract." |
