Abstract
| A black and white photograph featuring an unidentified refugee waving from a bus window, taken by the La Crosse Tribune photographer Steve Noffke on May 29, 1980. The back of the photograph states: "Viva America," and "Cuban refugee waving on bus from La Crosse municipal airport to refugee center at Fort McCoy. He was part of first plane load to arrive May 29, 1980." The photograph was included in the article titled "Many prisoners in second group of Cuban refugees," written by Terry Rindfleisch and Bill White, and published in the La Crosse Tribune on May 31, 1980. The photograph caption reads: "Viva America! - A man leans out of the window of a bus on the way to Fort McCoy and yells, 'Viva America, gracias, gracias,' while the busload of refugees cheers." The photograph was later included in the article "'Land of Opportunity' lacks jobs for everyone," written by Terry Rindfleisch and published in the La Crosse Tribune on October 20, 1980. |
